PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  •  To enhance the professional development of physicians, allied healthcare personnel and basic science teachers as educators of physicians and healthcare professionals.

This residential program consists of a good balance of five major themes: learning and teaching, curriculum design and process, educational leadership, educational research, assessment principles and strategies. The program provides a select group of up to 45 participants with the knowledge base and skills required to enhance their expertise in, both, designing and conducting their own educational project and in taking a leadership role in the educational activities of their institutions.

Participants can expect to enhance their knowledge and skills in the selection of best teaching practices that will bring out the best, not only in their students, but also in themselves. The program will enable participants to combine their content expertise with best teaching practices to optimize student learning.

Teaching-learning strategies include case studies, with small and whole group discussions, panel discussions, and interactive presentations. Each day participants will meet in groups to develop proposals and action plans for the implementation of some educational change in their respective institutions. A critical part of the overall educational experience is gained from the close daily interaction and exchange of ideas and insights among participants and faculty, both, in the formal and informal setting.

Target Participants

The program is specially designed for medical and allied healthcare personnel educators with about at least 5 years of teaching experience who would like to gain more insights on the teaching-learning process, including current concepts and principles in the science of learning.

The program will have special appeal to medical and allied healthcare personnel educators who can opt to become scholars within a teaching track offered by their institution, or who are expected to take on a leadership role in educational policy decision-making within their own institution.
